Taking a Chance on Children

Carnaval Des Enfants! celebrates romance and magic for a good cause.

Adult tastes were satisfied at the 2008 Carnaval Des Enfants! The party benefited two worthy causes: The Parenting Center of St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana. Supporters dressed up in black-tie and themed attire to attend the cabaret/cirque extravaganza at the home of Michael and Allyson Sanderson on Three Rivers Road in Covington. Queen of the Cabaret, Sponsor Superior Energy Services, Inc. led a large list of supporters.

On the 15th of November, the festivities were varied and impressive. At the Patron Party, Celeb Chef John Besh’s delicacies thrilled guests. A performance by the Culu Children’s Traditional African Dance Company was yet another treat. The main event allowed guests to enjoy local grub, groove to musical entertainment by BRW and admire the silent and live auction items. The casino and Louisiana State University viewing area was a hot spot. A fun putting challenge rewarded the winner with better bounty than the tired “One Free Game.” Instead, the prize was One Brand New 2009 Ford Flex SUV. A jewelry raffle from Aucoin Hart was the cherry on top of an exciting evening that ended when the clock struck midnight, or so.
Chaired by Jane Slatten and Liz Healy, Carnaval brought together two powerful groups of advocates for children and their parents. Both organizations provide a multitude of programs to those in need and it is no doubt that events like these will have an effect on generations.
