In a city still in the throes of recovery, having role models is more important than ever. To honor those who inspire—and continue to inspire—the Young Leadership Council held is 21st annual “Role Model Gala” on Aug.11. Each year, the YLC honors about 25 outstanding leaders, and recipients have distinguished themselves by promoting a positive attitude and an unyielding desire to benefit the community. This year’s honorees include: Julia Bland, Jennifer Steel Bourgeois, LaToya Cantrell, Henry Coaxum, Karen Nabonne Coaxum, Dr. Raquel Cortina, Dr. Michael Cowan, Scott Crabtree, Samuel Dalton, Janice Martin Foster, Frank Glaviano Sr., Loretta Harrison, Dr. Corey Hebert, Priscilla Lawrence, Adam Meinig, Cleland Powell III, Dr. Patrick Quinlan, Peter Quirk, Anne Flower Redd, Gary Robichaux, Arthur Sterbcow, Mark Suprenant, Denise Thornton, Sidney Torres IV and Rev. Ngyuen The Vien.
The black-tie party, held at the Sheraton Hotel, had the theme of “Shining a Light on New Orleans.” Guests enjoyed delicious food, music by the Boogie Men and a silent auction, which featured items such as a Tag Heuer men’s watch donated by Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, a commissioned art piece by Dr. Bob depicting a streetlight “Shining a Light” on New Orleans, and a YLC Wednesday at the Square private tent for one show during its concert series in Lafayette Square.
