It’s almost graduation season! For the kids, it’s a whirlwind of emotions, tears, shrieks of joy and a profound sense of accomplishment. For the parents, it’s dread over what the kids will do to stay busy all summer and the more pressing, what am I wearing to graduation?
I can’t help you with the former but the latter, that’s a snap! Here in New Orleans, we have a treasure trove of local brands, designed and founded right in our own backyard. Three of my personal favorites are Lekha, Sue Sartor, and Lapeyre. Each one has a unique perspective and, best of all, a shop on Magazine Street.
For a graduation ceremony, you want to strike that perfect balance of chic but effortless, relaxed yet still pulled together. Not too flirty, but definitely not too frumpy. Something that says “mom” in a modern, stylish way. After all, some of life’s biggest moments are captured in our minds through imagery; visual snapshots we’ll recall for the rest of our lives.
I still remember the Kelly green and white poplin striped dress my mom was wearing when she picked me up from my first summer at sleepaway camp (where, by the way, I cried the entire time). Our kids will remember us for a lot of things, good, bad and, yes, sometimes a little bit ugly. So why not try to make some of the “good” memories look cute on purpose?
