If you are working hard to stay fit and eating with intention (and even if you’re not) then why not highlight your efforts? Even if you’re not feeling your personal best, you can and should wear fun pieces that keep you inspired…and comfortable. When it comes to options, New Orleans has a lot to offer. As it turns out, the Big Easy is home to four locally designed activewear brands! Who would have guessed that a city known for excess and lounging could also be at the forefront of activewear design?
One such local brand, Laya Active is not only designing pieces in New Orleans, but also using sustainable materials to boot. The company uses 14 reused plastic bottles in every pair of leggings. Wow! The owner, Zoe Thibeault-Stone, also supports local causes with every purchase. Her latest design collaboration garners awareness as well as financial support for Peaceful Warriors. Shop the collection and/or take a donation based yoga class taught by the designer this Friday the 28th at the downtown Free to Be.
Greyson Clothiers has been around for almost a decade, but is finally putting down roots on Magazine Street. The founder, Charlie Schaeffer and his family live in New Orleans, but their designs reach customers and professional athletes all over the world. The brand was born from the vision of uniting fashion and sport, and it shows. The pieces are high performing but also chic enough to wear hopping around town. And let’s not forget the stalwart brand, Tasc Performance. Tasc has long been a nationally-recognized, sustainable activewear brand headquartered in New Orleans. The practical, super soft and easy to wear pieces have been sustainably produced using bamboo (long before most folks gave this a second thought). Staying true to their brand ethos, Tasc recently collaborated with Glass Half Full to offer an official drop-off location for glass collection.
Last but not least, activewear brand MoveMe was founded by Covington-based Cara Bennett. She designs using quick drying, soft fabrics with SPF 50. Her streamlined, flattering designs aim to fit all body types. Her candy-hued leggings and tops will brighten up any yoga studio!
