April Neujean is the Health and Wellness Manager for The Edible Schoolyard New Orleans. The goal of this innovative program is to change the way kids at five FirstLine public charter schools in New Orleans eat, learn and live. The Edible Schoolyard New Orleans began in 2006, right after Hurricane Katrina. The popular interactive program engages students in all aspects of growing, harvesting and preparing food. April describes the Edible Schoolyard's successes and explains how she hopes to use the Edible Schoolyard to improve the health not only of New Orleans students, but of their families as well.
