Dina Zeevi of Hear Now, LLC, is making noise about the dangers of hearing loss that plagues our service industry workers, musical performers, and specifically, high school marching band members. While a staple of Carnival Season and football festivities, marching band students are largely unprotected from the dangers of high decibel levels of sound and music that can cause lifelong damage to their hearing. Through efforts with the Louisiana Society of Hearing Aid Specialists, Dina Zeevi is working to provide local schools across the state with hearing protection as a standard part of uniform attire so these young musicians can begin their careers in music safely.

“These kids are practicing for hours in an enclosed area, then marching for hours and hours at sound levels that can trigger an alert on an Apple Watch,” says Dina. “We want to enjoy the music this city provides, but don’t need the musicians to harm themselves in the process.”

With eleven years in private practice and as President of the Louisiana Society of Hearing Aid Specialists, Dina hopes that any stigma around hearing protection will be eliminated, and the use of hearing protection and hearing aids can become as common and normalized as eyeglasses.
