A leading NOLA healthcare institution set among a sprawling 14-acre campus just outside New Orleans, River Oaks Hospital is on a mission to provide quality mental health care to its community. Offering a variety of programs, including the treatment of trauma, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, River Oaks provides inpatient care for general psychiatric concerns, dual diagnosis, and programs for adolescents (12-17) and adults (18+), along with the intensive outpatient program and partial hospitalization program to service various populations at different levels of care.

Cynthia Pettus joined River Oaks Hospital fourteen years ago after graduating from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s of Education in Mental Health Counseling. Beginning her career as a mental health specialist, Cynthia soon expanded her role to admissions counselor and therapist before becoming Program Director of the River Oaks Specialty Program.

“The River Oaks Specialty Program is more commonly known as The New Orleans Institute for Trauma, Compulsive Behaviors and Eating Disorders. Many individuals who seek mental health services have underlying trauma,” says Cynthia. “This program addresses the symptoms or behaviors related to trauma and eating disorders, as well as the underlying issues. Through this program, we are able to provide care for active duty service members, veterans, family members of military personnel, and civilians.
