The Fair Grounds: 141 Years of Horse Racing

Jim Mulvihill is the public relations manager for the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. The Fair Grounds is a popular New Orleans racing institution. New Orleanians have enjoyed watching the races on this site since the 1850s; however, the racetrack did not officially become the New Orleans Fair Grounds until 1872. According to Jim, "Thanksgiving Day has been a special day at the Fair Grounds since 1898."  Besides Thanksgiving, the Louisiana Derby is another big racing day for fans. On March 31, 2013, the Fair Grounds will celebrate the Louisiana Derby's 100th anniversary. Listen as Jim shares the Fair Grounds' plans for the festive centennial Derby celebration.
