Priscilla Lawrence is the executive director of The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC). THNOC is a museum, research center and publisher dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. In 2018, New Orleans will mark the city’s tricentennial anniversary. As part of the celebration, THNOC will feature a comprehensive new exhibit: New Orleans, the Founding Era.
In this interview, Lawrence describes some of the fascinating and rare artifacts on loan from European archives that will make the exhibit a one-of-a-kind exploration of the earliest days of New Orleans. For the tricentennial, THNOC will also open the organization’s largest expansion to date – the beautifully restored Seignouret-Brulatour Building at 520 Royal St. Lawrence also discusses Making New Orleans Home: A Tricentennial Symposium. This four-day event will feature a panel of distinguished speakers who will examine how the concept of home has had a central place in New Orleans’ cultural history.
