The National WWII Museum Hosts Scout Week January 23 – 31

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The National WWII Museum Annual Scout Day is being adapted to Scout Week this year! All levels of Scouts along with their families are invited to join The National WWII Museum for this socially distant, hybrid program. Scouts will tour the Museum’s exhibits, explore the history and lessons of World War II and participate in activities just for them while also having independent participation options at home. Scouts in uniform receive free admission and special pricing on our Museum Campus Pass will be offered to their families all week long.

Scout Week recognizes and celebrates the war-time contributions of individuals on the Home Front, including Scouts, who collected scrap metal, rubber and grease to be recycled into tanks, tires and gunpowder. At the Museum, Scouts will participate in a plane-spotting scavenger hunt, write letters to veterans, learn about secret codes and ciphers like Morse Code and more. In the comfort of their own homes, Scouts and their families can engage in activities such as making rag dolls from upcycled materials and creating their own maritime sea flags.

January 23 at 1:00 p.m. – Special Scout Week Kick-off Program (Virtual Event)
The National WWII Museum is partnering with the Pontchartrain Conservancy for Scout Week 2021. Tune in for a live broadcast of the educator-led session, Ecosystems of the Pontchartrain Basin. During World War II, troops traversed many diverse landscapes across the globe. To best prepare for surviving these different areas, they had to learn how to differentiate between and properly identify what they were encountering. Through this special program, you will discover the diverse landscapes here in Southern Louisiana.
