NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The NOLA Project is raising a glass to Scotland’s national poet in January.
Writer, farmer, tax collector… Robert “Rabbie” Burns was a man of many talents and The NOLA Project, and its many talents, is coming together to toast Scotland’s bard on his birthday.
“Burns Night will be a lively celebration of Scottish heritage featuring traditional toasts, delicious fare, and spirited entertainment all delivered with a distinctly NOLA Project twist,” said Artistic Director Tenaj Wallace in a release about the event.
The community event will feature food, beverages and performances by NOLA Project ensemble members Keith Claverie, Leslie Claverie, Alex Martinez Wallace, Kristin Witt and more. Included in the evening’s programming will be a reading of Gillian Duffy’s one-act play “THE GHOSTING OF RABBIE BURNS.”
“While Burns Night is, at this point, a long-standing tradition in Scotland and with Scottish-Americans here in the States, Robert Burns himself was a wholly non-traditional character, and he would have appreciated our wholly non-traditional take on the eponymous holiday,” said Alex Wallace. “Robert Burns was a poet, a patriot and a lover, but just like us at The NOLA Project, he was a wicked scamp – and so we shall make him proud.”
Burns Night will be presented at Jacob Schoen & Son and is open to the community. Admission is free, but RSVPs are requested. There is a suggested donation of $20. All proceeds go toward The NOLA Project’s 20th Season. To learn more, and reserve a spot, visit NOLAProject.com.
