The 2011 Shakespeare Festival at Tulane University kicked off in the Garden District on Sunday, May 22. Patrons supporting the arts were treated to a delightful evening at the home of Ted and Louise Martin. The event, chaired by Marie Cahn, Louise Martin and Clare Moncrief, benefited the summer season performances.
The company performed a 1930s-inspired Julius Caesar directed by Amy Holtcamp in June, a ’50s-inspired Twelfth Night directed by Shad Willingham in July and A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by the All Things Shakespeare student company and directed by Clare Moncrief, which will close out the season, August 3-6 and 6-7.
Palate New Orleans catered the event, which was attended by 85 people. Guests sipped wine and enjoyed dishes such as havarti cheese praline, prosciutto-wrapped melon and shrimp dijonaise. For a sweet treat to top off the meal, Palate New Orleans served pecan and lemon squares, petits fours and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Attendees were entertained by performances of scenes from the festival’s production of Julius Caesar as well as presentations from actors who completed the All Things Shakespeare summer training program. of the English Speaking Union were also invited to participate during the evening.
