Gary LaGrange is president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans. Gary explains that because of the immense Mississippi River, the Port of New Orleans supplies the largest market area of any port in the United States. New Orleans is the country’s largest importer of raw rubber, plywood and coffee, to name only a few products the port handles. In addition, in 2012, New Orleans was the fastest growing cruise port in the United States. For New Orleanians, the mighty Mississippi River is an everyday part of life, however, this powerful river and the city’s unique location have made the Port of New Orleans one of the world’s most valuable ports and one of New Orleans’ greatest assets.
