Nothing is quite as exciting as a horse race. The Triple Crown—Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes—are often edge-on-the-seat TV watching experiences. For those lucky enough to attend one of these races, the thrill lasts a lifetime.
It’s a good thing then that New Orleanians don’t have to wait until spring to watch horseracing, because starting on Thanksgiving is racing season at the Fair Grounds Race Course. Taking the family to the races on this day has been a longtime custom and one that has enthusiastically been embraced generation after generation. The season continues until the end of March, giving new and old racing fans the chance to see the beauty of horses and of this sport that has been enjoyed for thousands of years—and maybe win a few dollars on the side.
