The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel Celebrates 70th Anniversary of the Iconic “Stormin’ of the Sazerac”

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – In celebration of the monumental 70th anniversary, The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is raising a glass to the New Orleans women of 1949 during its annual re-creation of the “Stormin’ of the Sazerac” on Friday, Sept. 20. Hundreds of women will join this year’s Reigning Spirit of The Sazerac, Dress for Success New Orleans President Meaghan Bonavita in a second line procession through the hotel lobby into the historic Sazerac Bar starting at 3 p.m.

The second line follows a luncheon at 1 p.m. in the Blue Room, where guests will enjoy a three-course, ladies-only meal along with live entertainment, a 1940s themed fashion show by Century Girl and the passing of the title of the “Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac” to Dress for Success New Orleans President Meaghan Bonavita.

The event honors the bold group of ladies who stormed the Sazerac Bar in 1949 demanding equality, and a stiff drink, at a time when women were only allowed to be served at the bar on Mardi Gras day.
