Back to school means many things, including the return of a rotating parental responsibility for providing a snack for the class or a special treat for a child’s at-school celebration. If a parent has an enhanced role at their child’s school, such as Room Mother, these responsibilities may ratchet up to include treats for Halloween, Christmas/Chanukah, Valentine’s Day and more. Who can keep up? The School Bakery can lighten your load.
Offered treats include a variety of cupcakes, muffins, small-sized treats for little hands, gluten-free, vegan and dairy-free-treats, cakes, bundt cakes, both large and bite-sized bundt cakes, cookie kits for decorating in class, traditional birthday cakes, cookie, and brownie cakes, treat bags, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a package deal Room Moms’ Special that takes care of everything for an entire year.
TSB makes providing children with healthy and delicious treats for classroom celebrations easier. The organization produces and delivers custom orders (sold by the dozen) directly to a child’s school on the morning of a celebration. Parents or caregivers must make party arrangements directly with the school, then call TSB to place the order, which will arrive freshly baked and ready for distribution on the big day. Cupcakes, cakes, and treats are carefully decorated to a chosen theme. Orders can also be delivered to homes or businesses in the Metro area. Check out the website (theschoolbakery.com). Call if your child’s school is not on the list, and it will be added.
The Expert
Emily Vanlandingham, the culinary mastermind behind The School Bakery. Chef Vanlandingham has a master’s degree in food business from the Culinary Institute of America and a bachelor’s in communications from George Mason University, where she specialized in Food Media. She has spent her career studying our global food system through entrepreneurs’ eyes. As the parent of a grade school-aged child, she recognized a need for a service that would take some of the heat off parents. “Our celebration sweets are made from scratch using quality, minimally processed ingredients,” she said.
