The Show Must Go On!

Southern Rep invites patrons backstage.

Southern Repertory Theatre certainly has a rep for fine entertainment and their “Backstage Bash” on Friday, March 6 was no exception. Two fun-tastic acts performed: Trombone Shorty and his boys, Orleans Avenue, and Kermit Ruffins & The Barbeque Swingers. It was a memorable night of fundraising for the hip 23-year-old theater specializing in premiere productions both regional and global.

At 6:30 p.m. patrons arrived to the setting, the third floor of The Shops at Canal Place, to booze and schmooze with drama mamas and papas. Artful hors d’oeuvres were created by Chef Shane Pritchett. One hour in, Saks began the bash. A never-ending offering of drinks and bites were served by city-wide pleasers. The silent auction included art, jewelry, sports memorabilia and dining. Ruffins and his band astounded guests.

At 9:30 Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews hit the scene. No doubt “Bash Crashers” showed; discounted tickets were available for those who could make it just in time to “hear Shorty play higher!” Congratulations to Southern Rep for holding a star-studded evening with proceeds funding their Mainstage productions, numerous educational programs, Free Night of Theatre and City Series Theatre Development Program.
