How does one pack more than 1,000 people under a tent in an Old Metairie backyard? Not easily, but the SRO crowd didn’t seem to mind the elbow-to-elbow camaraderie at the “Soul Revival.” Held March 5 at the home of Richelle and David Voelker, partygoers were initially enticed to the party by the T-shirts, plaques and invitations that were sent to them. All of those items were adorned with Dr. Bob (known for his “Be Nice or Leave” art) images, the most prominent was the saying “Be Nice, Donate Life.”
Also drawing the crowds was the great food—fried chicken, black-eyed peas, greens and cornbread provided by the Hilton Hotel—and great music, with this year’s entertainment line up of Tyrone Foster and the Arc Singers, Hot Rod Lincoln and The Maxx.
More than $250,000 was raised for the Legacy Donor Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission of educating the public about the need for people to become organ donors. •
