NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Calling all secret agents: The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library is hosting a James Bond-themed event to benefit the Library’s beloved Summer Fun Program.
Join us at the Main Library, 219 Loyola Avenue, on Nov. 9 for our first-ever Spy Who Read Me event. The evening will kick off at 6:30 p.m., where attendees will get a technical briefing from Q, when they’ll receive special information to complete a 007 scavenger hunt throughout the Library’s stacks. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to crack clues, solve challenges and win prizes.
The first place winner will receive two domestic round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines, and the first place in the group category will win a keg party for 50 at the District Lounge.
Guests will also be treated to shaken – not stirred – martinis from the open bar, local eats, live music, a silent auction and other extravagant door prizes. Auction items will include artwork by local favorite Dr. Bob, three custom build Little Free Libraries, a chartered fishing trip for four, jewelry, resort packages, and luxury services galore.
Some of our city’s best eateries, including City Greens, Gattuso’s, Five Happiness, Liberty Cheesesteaks, Zea Rotisserie & Bar, Tartine, Langensteins, Laurel Street Bakery, Messina’s Runway Café, the Munch Factory, and Katie’s Restaurant will be serving up delicious food throughout the night. Seven Three Distilling and the Barman’s Fund of Louisiana have teamed-up to present James Bond’s signature martini cocktail, “The Vesper”, at the event.
All proceeds from the event will directly support the New Orleans Public Library’s Summer Fun and Reading Program, one of the Library’s most popular and looked-forward to services.
“In 2019, more than 15,000 children, teens and adults enjoyed the benefits this program, which is provided in all of the Library’s 15 locations and is so important across New Orleans’ many communities,” Dixon Stetler, Executive Director of FNOPL said. “With the funds raised from this event, we’ll be able to continue to sponsor those events, workshops and incentives which work to champion literacy, strengthen communities and enrich minds.”
Proper spy attire is encouraged and will be greatly rewarded, so dust off your trench coat or tuxedo and join us for a thrilling night. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit friendsnola.org/the-spy-who-read-me/.
