From the 1930s into the ‘40s, Louisiana was still primarily a rural state, though with characters and distinct cultures throughout the villages and cities. Superhighways and mass media would homogenize people and places; nevertheless, as though framed by time, the state was experiencing the last days of the old Louisiana.
