The Ultimate Holiday Outfit

The ultimate holiday outfit. You know the one I’m talking about. That carefully selected ensemble that you wear to your favorite annual holiday event.

I’ll always remember the cream-colored floor-length dress from Fred Segal that I splurged on in 2015. I wore it to a raucous Christmas party I hosted when I was seven months pregnant. The crisp yet stretchy cotton hugged my popping belly just right, and a cape-like split cascaded ethereally down the back. I paired it with my sparkly beige wedding day heels and a floral crown of red roses and holly berries. It was magical. Just want I needed to get through the last few sciatica-filled months of my pregnancy.

Sometimes your holiday ensemble choice is crucial in a way that transcends fashion. It serves as a vital reminder that you’re still festive, fashionable and, dare I say, even attractive! That you, too, still have some magic left to sprinkle on the world. It’s another year that you’re still alive and thriving.

And now that you truly know the importance of this outfit choice, we can get down to the fun stuff! Here are a few tips along with a few local fashion picks:

  1. Take Advice from the Experts

Listen to the recommendation of the people who work at the shop. It seems obvious, but often I go rogue and end up with something that doesn’t work! Let the professionals do their jobs. They do this all day, every day.

  1. Throw Caution to the Wind

Some years it’s just about having fun! You can go over-the-top sparkle, ugly sweater or even hint of Mrs. Claus. Anything that creates a conversation is worth wearing if you’re in the right mood!

  1. Do What Works

Invest in a classic piece and get it tailored to perfection. This takes more work, but will last beyond a season or two.

  1. Reduce/Reuse/Recycle

It’s easier and more fun to do around the holidays than you might think! My sister, mom and I have a revolving closet door. And shop vintage stores like Century Girl, Slow Down, UAL and Vintage 329.
