Each hoping to meet someone special, Sarah Bess Throneberry and Peter Conway Roussel decided to join the dating app Bumble. Because Bumble gives the power to initiate conversations only to women, Sarah made the first move, which eventually led to her inviting Pete to a Shania Twain concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The concert turned into the most fun date either had experienced, and both knew that evening was the beginning of a relationship. Almost exactly one year later Pete was planning his proposal.
He popped the question during a trip to Cape San Blas, Florida. The couple went for a long walk along the water, and he timed it so that they got back to the boardwalk just as the sun was setting. Pete got down on one knee with an absolutely stunning sunset in the background, and Sarah happily said “yes!”.
Their celebration began with a rehearsal dinner at Nashville restaurant Etch, where guests enjoyed classic Southern food. On July 18, 2020, Sarah walked down the aisle of Wightman Chapel, which the couple selected for its beautiful grounds and greenery. Julian Goodpaster pronounced them husband and wife. Knowing their big day would be a whirlwind surrounded by friends and family, Sarah and Pete wrote a letter to one another before the ceremony and exchanged them during their “first look” on their wedding day – a perfect way to have a private moment for just the two of them.
Following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests headed to CJ’s Off The Square in Franklin, Tennessee, for a reception full of special touches that truly represented Pete and Sarah. The venue was decked out in pastel watercolor florals with a mix of soft shades ranging from purple to pink to blue. The décor felt like the perfect complement to the specialty cocktail, a “Perfect Pear Martini” made with Pear Grey Goose and St. Germain. Everyone raved about both the cocktail and the catering from Red Pony, especially the shrimp and grits. Accompanying the meal were two spectacular cakes, and the groom’s cake featured a message from a someone who couldn’t make it to the party. The cake was adorned with a personalized Golden-Retriever cake topper of the couple’s dog, Samson, and read “I do, too.”
Unbeknownst to many people there, Sarah and Pete had taken dance lessons in preparation for their first dance as a married couple, and they wowed guests with their footwork to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, which they chose because it’s an upbeat song with a great message. Following this and many more dances, the magical night drew to a close. Guests took home monogramed personalized matchbooks with the inscription “The Perfect Match” as keepsakes.
For their honeymoon trip, Pete and Sarah took a nine-hour road trip back to the place where their life together officially started, Cape San Blas. After a relaxing week at the beach, they returned to Nashville, where Pete is a sports agent representing college and NFL coaches and Sarah is a registered nurse in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
