If you were lucky enough to be in the Hilton Hotel on March 10, let’s say near the Grand Ballroom, you would have been struck by all the women wearing hats—and not just ordinary hats, either. All this creativity was for the Women’s Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association’s 32nd annual “Mad Hatter’s Luncheon.” And while wearing a great hat is part of the fun, the event’s hat contest adds a little competitive spirit to the afternoon. Some of the “top hats” were: “Mad Hatter’s Choice”: Yvonne La Fleur; “Most Original”: Garden of Memories by the Worker Bees; “Secret Garden Theme”: Sally Richards; “Most Humorous”: That Old Black Magic; “Best Ensemble”: Leslie Parry; “Best Red Hat Theme”: Jane Duvernay’s group; “Most Beautiful”: Gene Alario; “Best Group”: Chapeau’s of Famous Artists; “Best Opera Theme”: Phantom of the Opera. In addition to the hat contest, Saks Fifth Avenue presented St. John’s spring collection for 2005. •
