Like the wedding gown, the tradition of the first dance dates back centuries to the kings and queens of Europe past. Though more of something to tick off the list these days, some couples still opt to make their first dance a staple of their reception celebrations to remember for years to come.
The main part of a first dance is the song and picking the right one, representing your first steps as a married couple, makes all the difference.
Recently, The Knot conducted its Real Wedding Study and a new popular tune has beat out Ed Sheeran for the top spot among The Knot couples. In the results, reported more recently by People Magazine, the popular wedding magazine and website notes that Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” has now dethroned the long-reigning Sheeran do mostly in part, in the opinion of The Knot Deputy Editor Esther Lee, due to the more recent releases of the major films “Elvis” and “Priscilla.”
Additionally, in keeping with recent events, eight of the top 10 songs include Grammy-winning artists.
The top 10 most popular first dance songs right now according to The Knot:
- “Can’t Help Falling in Love” Elvis Presley

The team at Renaissance Publishing have shared their first dance songs, as well as a little more information on the last dance trend.
