Food and fund-raising were on the minds of the more than 450 people who attended the March of Dime’s “Gourmet Gala” Nov. 19 at the Marriott Hotel/Convention Center. In addition to raising money for the March of Dimes, partygoers also like this event because of the gourmet food served by each restaurant’s top chefs. Who was on hand? Chefs Dominque Macquet (Dominque’s), who was the chef chair, Thomas Wolfe (Wolfe’s in the Warehouse District, Peristyle), who was the host chef, as well as Andrea Apuzzo (Andrea’s), Tenney Flynn (GW Fins), Chuck Subra (La Côte Brasserie), Brian Landry (Galatoire’s), Michael Sichel (7 on Fulton), Jared Tees, Rene Bajeux, Nick Engler and other notables who served their signature dishes.
In between the noshing, guests enjoyed music from the Blue Meanies, who performed during the cocktail hour, and Rockin’ Dopsie Jr., who with his band played during the gala. Live and silent auctions also tempted partygoers with items such as a guitar signed by Willie Nelson, concert tickets, a fishing trip with Sheriff Harry Lee, a trip to the Kentucky Derby and travel itineraries donated by the Marriott. Adler’s also donated a diamond-and-yellow sapphire butterfly brooch. Christie and Mitchell Mintz were honored for their support of March of Dimes.
The party raised nearly $200,000 for the March of Dimes efforts to help prevent birth defects and infant mortality.
