Treasures Come to Temple

Locals brought their antique treasures to Temple Sinai’s Annual Gala on February 19 to be evaluated by appraisers.

Temple Sinai modeled “Treasures and Tribute” after PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, with appraisers Joey Sutton of Vintage 329, Stephen Cohen of James H. Cohen & Sons, Inc. and M. S. Rau Antiques appraisers coming in to assess guests’ prized collections.

Laura Arrowood Catering provided cuisine; chef Rommel of Rommel’s Catering also made a delicious steamship round of beef for the catered meal. Guest sipped on Nacho Mama’s margaritas, enjoying the UNO Jazz Quartet performance before the silent auction.

Jay and Avery Corenswet served as event co-chairs, making an extravagant “antiques road show” for the first Reform Jewish congregation in New Orleans. The event honored another Temple Sinai “treasure:” Saundra K. Levy, Executive Director of the Jewish Endowment Foundation of Louisiana and former President of Temple Sinai. Levy helped with the temple’s lovely renovation after Hurricane Katrina and helped to secure necessary recovery funds for the Jewish community.
