Everything You Need to Know About Tropical Hibiscus

1 | Appearance 

Vibrant red, pink, yellow and white tropical hibiscus have a long, central stamen and five petals. These colorful, trumpet-shaped flowers are popular in Louisiana because they thrive in high-humidity climates.

2 | Uses

Tropical hibiscus is as edible as it is beautiful and can be admired in your garden or added to salads, used in teas and jams or employed as a gorgeous garnish.

3 | Grow

The LSU Ag Center advises planting hibiscus in late spring or early summer, but they can be planted anytime during the summer. Grow them in the ground or a container, water regularly so they do not wilt and use a slow-release fertilizer on occasion to keep them blooming.
