Tujague’s Restaurant Celebrates 165 Years, Hosts Festivities All December Long

 

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The second oldest restaurant in New Orleans and the third oldest continuously operating restaurant in the U.S., Tujague’s Restaurant is the birthplace of brunch and the Grasshopper cocktail.  From Presidential visits by Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower and France’s De Gaulle to the many obstacles and challenges the restaurant faced, the story of Tujague’s is multi-faceted. Now, the iconic dining institution is celebrating its 165th anniversary and is inviting diners to help commemorate such an incredible milestone with a series of special events and promotions throughout the month of December.

Starting Wednesday, December 1, and continuing through the end of the year, Tujague’s is partnering with Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve, NV to offer guests unbeatable specials on the high-end bubbly. Guests can sip on glasses of this sought-after champagne for just $16.50 or enjoy a bottle for the low price of $65. Specials will be available daily during the restaurant’s operating hours.

In addition to Champagne specials, the world-renowned eatery is offering a commemorative 1856 Sazerac Collection. Tujague’s Sazerac Collection includes High West Rye Whiskey ($25) – Peychaud’s Oak Barrel Aged Bitters, Jade ‘C.F. Berger’ Absinthe Supérierure, and Louisiana cane sugar served in a commemorative 1856 Riedel rocks glass; ‘1840’ Pierre Ferrand Grand Champagne Cognac ($18) – Peychaud’s Oak Barrel Aged Bitters, Lucid Absinthe Supérierure, Louisiana cane sugar; and Sazerac Rye Whiskey ($12) – Peychaud’s Bitters, Herbsaint, Louisiana cane sugar. Tujague’s 165th anniversary celebration wouldn’t be complete without with a festive Sunday Funday. On Sunday, Dec. 26, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., the restaurant will host a three-hour Christmas themed Drag Queen Brunch with Poppy Tooker, featuring a vivacious cast of New Orleans’ most beloved Queens. Priced at $70 per person (excluding tax and gratuity), the three-course menu features a variety of culinary delights as well as bottomless mimosas and coffee. The anniversary celebration at Tujague’s continues with an $18.56 prix fixe lunch menu, an ode to the year the restaurant first began serving the people of New Orleans. The three-course menu will be available Monday – Friday throughout December from 11AM – 2:30PM (not available 12/17, 12/24 and 12/31) and features several New Orleans staples that diners may choose from.
