Derek Smalls and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra
What can one possibly say about a musical legacy as storied as that of Derek Smalls’. The former bassist of the legendary Spinal Tap has returned with his debut solo record – Smalls Change. This one night only performance dubbed – Lukewarm Water Live: An Adventure in Loud Music – will feature the LPO accompanying Smalls on these massive new tracks. Some have noted a marked resemblance between local man about town Harry Shearer and Derek Smalls, but both have assured me (separately) that this is just a coincidence. Check out the video for the title cut below. You can catch the full performance on April 14 at the Saenger Theatre.

TUNESFEST
On Sunday the homespun TUNESFEST will take over the Music Box Village for the day. This event benefits the Link Stryjewski Foundation’s mission to educate and nourish the youth of New Orleans. This year you can catch performances from Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Patrick Shuttleswerth, Midriff and more. Food will be provided by Taco Cat and Congreso Cubano. Check out the flier below. This is a great event for a great cause, and a chance to see some of the best local musicians.
