Tutti Frutti

From farm to the center of the table, more brides and grooms are opting to add edible accouterments to the centerpiece of their reception tables. Brides magazine recently reported on the growing trend, noting that some couples throw out the flowers all together and opt strictly for an edible arrangement, while others incorporated them into the theme and color scheme of the evening.

Though this non-traditional route has many pros, it can be easy to cross the line between artistic statement and a wax fruit art project.

Fruit can add depth, color, and even fragrance to your reception table. Citrus fruits like oranges or grapefruit are a classic, airy addition for spring and summertime weddings. Line a vase with lemons or lemon slices and pair with sweet white or pale colored flowers like lilies, daisies or Arum-lily.

Dark berries or figs add depth to lightly-hued flora, and drama to fuchsia-hued options.

Add apples down a wood plank in the middle of the table for a rustic farmhouse reception. Or try for preppy and quirky with a row of pineapples taking center stage.

Vegetables like carrots, cabbage, even purple artichoke can all make a statement as well with any centerpiece; it’s all about color, mass and season of the fruit or vegetable and you have a gorgeous central talking point.
