United Way Southeast Louisiana Alexis de Tocqueville Gala

The Alexis de Tocqueville Gala presented by Pan-American Life Insurance Group is the United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s signature celebration of philanthropy and civic leadership, bringing together an influential mix of business and community leaders for an evening of purpose and recognition.

Held Nov. 13 at the New Orleans Marriott, the event highlighted the power of sustained generosity, recognizing individuals whose contributions continue to strengthen education, health and financial stability across the region. The Alexis de Tocqueville Society, established locally in 1985 by C. Allen Favrot, honors individuals and families who contribute $10,000 or more annually, reflecting a long-term commitment to the community.

The 2025 gala honored José S. Suquet, chairman and CEO of Pan-American Life Insurance Group, for his dedication to both business excellence and community impact. As a member of the Tocqueville Society, Suquet exemplified the spirit of giving that defines the organization. His leadership has extended beyond the boardroom: as United Way’s Campaign Cabinet chair from 2008 to 2009, he helped surpass a $21.4 million goal, raising a record $22.6 million during a critical period of recovery following Hurricane Katrina.

Since 1986, the gala has recognized some of the region’s most dedicated civic and philanthropic leaders. This year’s celebration continued that tradition, underscoring the vital role generosity and leadership play in shaping a stronger, more resilient Southeast Louisiana.
