Upper Nine Doughnut Company: Making New Traditions

Glenn Haggerty is co-owner of Upper Nine Doughnut Company. Glenn's business is a "pop up," i.e., he operates Upper Nine Doughnut Company out of an existing business. For this podcast, Glenn and his doughnuts were at Sound Cafe, a coffee shop in New Orleans' Bywater neighborhood. The cafe features Glenn's doughnuts several times a week. Although Glenn cherishes old New Orleans traditions, no one would mistake his unique, gourmet doughnuts for McKenzies' confections. In Glenn's hands, the humble doughnut takes on exciting new flavors. Fresh strawberries with Creole cream cheese mousse, orangesicle and Brandy milk brûlée are just three examples of Upper Nine's New Orleans-themed doughnuts.

Glenn also shares his thoughts about some of the changes the Bywater neighborhood is experiencing; for example, he notes that unlike years ago, many people who live in Bywater are not native to New Orleans.
