NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Upturn Arts has opened registration for U-Turn, the organization’s first at-home, virtual summer camp program. This program, which is set to launch June 14, is open to children 4-14 years old.
All families in the New Orleans area with children ages 4-14 are encouraged to register. Each registrant, limited to 500 total, will receive a U-Turn art kit complete with age-specific lesson plans, access to the YouTube learning channel, a reusable bag, t-shirt, and tie-dye kit, and all the art supplies needed to complete each activity. In line with Upturn Arts’ mission to provide Arts For All, the art kits will be available to families on a pay-what-you-can scale. All proceeds will go toward the production of future U-Turn programs. While participation is open to the public, advanced registration is required to receive an art kit.
As with all in-person camp offerings, lagniappe workshops featuring local artists from the Master Guest Artists series will be available on the YouTube channel. Sponsored by the Positive Vibrations Foundation, these all-ages lessons will include workshops by Mike Dillon (pillow percussion), John Bukaty (visual art), Larry Frates (magic), S.G. Clark (visual art), Daria and the Hip Drops (music and dance challenge), MC Sweet Tea (performance art), and more.
Distance learning, at home, and online. Art kit pick up begins June 14 at Upturn Arts, 1719 Toledano Street, New Orleans, LA 70115. Pre-registration required.
