Velvet Reigns

Award season began on Jan. 5 with the 77th Golden Globe Awards. Each award season we love the bridal inspiration that can be sparked by red carpet looks. However, when scanning the celebrity attendees this year, we noticed a trend that surprised us – velvet … menswear. It’s not surprising necessarily, since, men — especially celebrities — frequently break the mold when it comes to typical menswear, but this year it seemed to really stand out as stars like Jason Momoa, Chris Evans and even Tom Hanks all opted for velvet.

New Orleanians may feel hesitation toward certain fabrics, particularly velvet, since they can add to the heat already blanketing the city most of the year. But, just like the velvet fabric trend that has influenced bridesmaid fashion over recent years, there are some who will always sacrifice comfort for style and for the rest of us, there are those few cooler days in fall and winter when we can wear cozier items.

For fashion-forward men bold enough to brave the heat, velvet is ideal for a winter wedding – or wedding-related party that calls for a suit jacket upgrade – and can make a man stand out on the Big Day.
