Verizon Brings Free Charging and Wireless Emergency Communication Center to Help Hurricane Ida Victims

 

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Verizon has deployed a Wireless Emergency Communication Center (WECC) to Hammond to help keep folks in the area connected as part of our Hurricane Ida recovery effort. It’s open to anyone in the community regardless of whether or not they’re a customer starting today at 12 p.m. CT and will be open daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The WECC trailer will have a tent and charging table set up outside, due to COVID safety protocols.

Wireless Emergency Communication Centers are generator-powered mobile units that have device charging and computer workstations, along with wireless phones, tablets and other devices to contact friends, family and other important contacts over Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

The WECC is stationed at Seekers Point Church located at: 14145 West University Ave., Hammond, LA 70401.

In addition, Verizon will be setting up free charging stations today:

  1. Rosenwald Recreation Center- 1120 S Broad St., New Orleans, LA 70125 (timing: 1:00 p.m. local today)
