Very Merry Cocktails

Most of us will be heading out this holiday season to have some fun, so lets raise a glass to the awesome bartenders who are creating holiday inspired drinks.

This year a lot of holiday beverages are spotlighting mocha, mint, eggnog, berries and candy garnish. Grab your glass and let’s navigate the cocktail scene.

Here are just a few to note:

NOPSI Hotel’s Public Service (311 Baronne St.) is bringing the festive fun. Their Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer cocktail is served with St Germain Liqueur, cranberry simple syrup, topped with champagne and garnished with cranberries. The Mistletoe cocktail uses Woodford Reserve bourbon, cranberry simple syrup, orange bitters and is garnished with seasonal berries made to look like an actual mistletoe. Bartender Phillip Chilton says the Public Service team is always looking for ways to use the holidays to conjure up a holiday favorite.

Johnny Sanchez (930 Poydras St.) is asking if you are ready for Feliz Navidad? Bartender Sara Rouden created this seasonal cocktail using hibiscus-clove infused tequila, satsuma, pomegranate and a black salt rim. The garnish is made from pomegranate seeds that look like holiday holly berries. This drink is so fun and unique.

If you’re in the quarter, a stop at RF’s (301 Rue Dauphine) will quench your thirst for Kris Kringle cocktails. Bartenders here are offering a cranberry apple cider Old Fashioned and a pomegranate Cosmo. Bar manager Joshua Daly says next week they are rolling out their deconstructed pumpkin tequila Sazerac.

Another great spirited location is SoBou (310 Rue Chartres), where bar chef Laura Bellucci is featuring a rum-based smoked cranberry daiquiri. She actually infuses the cranberries with smoke for four hours. Then she cooks the berries into a syrup with sugar, lemon and orange peels, cranberry juice and fresh orange juice. This cocktail is out of this world.

Finally, we cannot leave out the Pelican Club (310 Exchange Place), which is serving its bourbon eggnog.

Obviously, these are just a few of the infinite amount of bars around town. With so many amazing places to choose from, we are confident you can’t go wrong finding the perfect place to sip it up this season.

Cheers!
