New Orleans has received a lot of recognition from around the country in recent months. Arguably the most impressive is being named the No. 1 place to visit by The New York Times.
Amid the acclaim, online finance company WalletHub recently named New Orleans among the top 20 places to get married.
WalletHub’s mission was to aid couples in finding locations that made sense financially, while also being convenient and adding the fun factor most couples want on their Big Day.
With the wedding industry seeing $76 billion annually, while continuing to grow, and couples dishing out an average of over $35,000 (according to The Knot) WalletHub says “in order to assist with the planning process, our analysts compared more than 180 U.S. cities to find the cheapest and most convenient wedding destinations that also promise a memorable day.”
When explaining how they completed their rankings, the announcement continued, “We examined each city across 23 key indicators of wedding-friendliness, ranging from average wedding cost to venues and event spaces per capita to hotel availability.”
The following graphic indicates the overall rankings, with New Orleans taking the No. 18 spot.
Below you can see the position New Orleans ranked in categories.
As the graph shows, each city was rated in three different categories: Cost (total points possible: 40), Facilities and Services (total points possible: 30) and Activities and Attractions (total points possible: 30).
A surprising finding to us was that New Orleans did not fall in the top 5 for most attractions per city. Those spots went to New York City and Chicago as a tie, followed by Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
If we were ranking, New Orleans would hit the top of our list. The Big Easy boasts big celebrations when it comes to weddings and we only see that growing more in the coming years.
