Trends We Love: Flowers, Cocktails and more

Weddings can be the most opportune time for someone to get creative. Whether you’re interested in design, food or florals, there’s a little something for everyone while planning their big day. Recently, there have been a few wedding trends that have stuck out more than the rest and we hope these additions are on the rise.

Flower Power

Flowers have always been an important part of a wedding. And floral arrangements alone can help solidify the tone or theme of a wedding event. Recently, we’ve seen a rise in floral adorned entry signs. Entry signs are nothing new, but more signs have been popping up with additional florals, almost looking like a picture box. This can either make a statement or continue your color scheme throughout.

Another floral trend we love, that actually has been around for a while but is just getting the attention it deserves, is the art of pressing flowers. We saw a bride on social media who got her bouquet pressed and arranged around her and her husband’s written vows from their ceremony. We also love the idea of pressing your bouquet flowers into a tray for decoration, a makeup table or other decorative items. It keeps the gorgeous flowers you chose alive and the memory of your wedding day always on your mind.

Artsy Additions

Weddings are nothing if not a party, and adding little touches of art or activities has been growing in popularity over the years. Our favorite are the more artist-inspired activities. We attended a wedding where local artist Cubs The Poet was writing personalized poems for all of the wedding guests. His vibe, typewriter and inspiring poetry made for an unforgettable experience. In the same vein, but different medium, adding an alternative musical option to your wedding can make for even more unforgettable moments. Local violinist T-Ray the Violinist has played at a few weddings I’ve attended (and full disclosure he is a friend of mine), taking popular songs and hits from a variety of musical genres, as well as popular TV and movies, and turning them into something new and special for individual couples.

We also talked in a previous post about hiring an artist to draw or paint individual portraits of your guests. Not only do your guests get to feel special and in the spotlight for a moment, they also get a keepsake to take home with them

The Wall

This trend isn’t exactly new, but what some couples are coming up with recently takes the cake … sometimes literally. Any wedding trend followers have seen the cocktail wall – rows of gorgeous cocktails lined up waiting for guests to enjoy. A step up from the plain wall is a “press here for cocktail” idea. We’ve all seen the “press here for champagne” signs at various home shops, but for this a guest goes to the wall, presses the button and out pops a gloved hand holding a perfectly crafted drink. We’ve even seen a wall with two button options – one for each of the couple’s signature cocktail options. And even further than a magical hand holding a drink, couples are taking the wall and turning them into food displays, like a donut wall, or small, individual charcuterie plates and even a seating chart filled with individual pints of ice cream bites for each guest with their table numbers on the top.
