Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)
Question: My parents are financing our wedding and reception. Are we supposed to include my fiancé’s parent’s on wedding the invitation if they aren’t contributing?
Answer: Traditionally, if the bride’s parents are funding the wedding and reception the groom’s parents are not included on the invitation. That said, many couple’s will include the groom’s parents as cohosts, to illustrate the merging of two families. In this case the invitation might read:
Together with their families
Jenny Smith and Jared Williams…
Otherwise, feel free to omit the groom’s parents without worrying about a breach of etiquette.
