Wediquette Wednesday: Can I have my dad and my stepdad walk me down the aisle?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: I know traditionally you are supposed to have your dad walk you down the aisle, but I’m also close with my stepdad. Can I have my dad and my stepdad walk me down the aisle?

Answer: It’s a wonderful gesture to include your stepdad in such an important and symbolic moment in the wedding. I’m sure he will be touched by it. Be sure to let your dad know the plan so there aren’t any surprises and so he can express any emotions he has surrounding the prospect. Then also, when you go to your stepdad to ask, you’ll be able to let him know that you have your dad’s blessing.
