Wediquette Wednesday: Can I wear a black jumpsuit to a night wedding?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: I have a jumpsuit that’s like pants and a top, all black with nice fabric. Can I wear a black jumpsuit to a night wedding?

Answer: Because black is associated with funerals, most people avoid wearing it for weddings, unless they are in the bridal party and it’s the attire chosen by the couple or in the event that the couple requests that guests wear black. Adding metallic or color accents however, would take black from funereal to festive. Consider pops of color, silver or gold in one or more elements, such as your shoes, handbag, jacket, scarf or wrap and jewelry.
