Wediquette Wednesday: Do I send another gift for a newly rescheduled wedding date if I already sent one for the original date?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: My friends had to postpone their wedding due to COVID. I just received a save-the-date for the new date. I’m wondering what to do about the gift. Do I send another gift for a newly rescheduled wedding date if I already sent one for the original date?

Answer: If you already sent a gift, you are all set. Guests are not expected to send more than one gift under normal circumstances or when the wedding has been postponed, even due to a pandemic. Consider sending a card closer to the new date however, as a gesture to the couple who is surely going through a lot of emotions.
