Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)
Question: When [the couple has a lot of] wedding showers, what’s the [gift] etiquette? I usually do a shower present then wedding present, but my limit is two per wedding.
Answer: It’s customary to bring a gift to only the first shower you attend and then also a wedding gift. When invited to multiple showers in addition to the wedding, first decide upon a total budget. Determine your overall spending according to what you can realistically afford and your relationship to the couple. If it’s in your budget to bring a small token gift to each shower, then a larger gift to the wedding, go for it. If not, split the total budget into an amount for a smaller gift for the first shower you attend and a separate wedding gift.
