Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)
Question: My fiancé and I aren’t really into the whole big wedding ceremony thing and have decided to elope, but we’d like to throw a big bash when we get back to celebrate with our families. Is it OK to do a delayed reception if we are eloping?
Answer: Congratulations on your upcoming elopement! It’s absolutely OK to host a delayed reception. Plan it just as you would a post-wedding ceremony reception, but include photos of your elopement around the venue (such as on the tables) and, or a video or a slideshow during the cocktail hour so that guests can share in the moments from your actual ceremony (however simple) that they missed. Then kick up your heels and celebrate with your loved ones!
