Wediquette Wednesday: Is it OK to post video and photos from our micro-wedding after having to disinvite most of our guests?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: We had to drastically scale back our wedding guest list due to COVID-19 restrictions. Our wedding went from the 200s to 10 and is truly just our immediate family. We’ve already done the hard part — breaking the news. Everyone was so kind and understanding. We will have a virtual component so friends and family that can’t attend can still “be there” and take part from afar. That said, we aren’t sure how to handle social media. Is it OK to post video and photos from our micro-wedding after having to disinvite most of our guests?

Answer: I’m sorry your wedding day has changed so drastically from what you envisioned. It’s truly a sign of our times. It sounds like you are handling it with grace, which is the most any of us can hope for at a time like this one. When it comes to social media posts after the wedding, it’s natural to want to share your Big Day. Definitely do so, but keep posts limited. Be especially mindful of images and video that include those who ultimately made the cut. This will go a long way toward sparing the feelings of those who had to watch from home.
