Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)
Question: My friend’s wedding is in May and I’m trying to decide what to wear. It should be relatively warm, so I’m thinking of wearing one of my favorite spring dresses. It has a lot of white in it, but is more pink than white. Is it OK to wear something with a lot of white in it to a wedding?
Answer: The rule of thumb is to avoid wearing white to a wedding unless you are the bride or you’ve been instructed by the couple to wear white. You’d probably be fine if the other dominate color is pink, but if you are wondering about it, your gut is telling you it might be crossing into no-no territory. Go with your gut.
