Wediquette Wednesday: Is it weird to give mini-hand sanitizers as wedding favors?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: My mom and I are at odds over our wedding favors. We want to do mini-bottles of spray hand sanitizer personalized with our wedding date and logo. She thinks that’s inappropriate and wants us to do something more traditional. Would it be weird or tacky to give mini-hand sanitizers as wedding favors?

Answer: While I 100 percent understand your mom’s reservations and desire to err on the side of traditional, I’m a practical gift-giver and love the personalized hand sanitizer idea. It’s certainly a timely favor and it can be made attractive with the right style of bottle and label design. I say go for it!
