Wediquette Wednesday: Should we have a designated singles table at our reception?

Each Wednesday, we tackle wedding etiquette. At times, it’s a reader question or one from a colleague, friend or family member and other times we’ll cover a popular issue. (Note: Questions may be edited for clarity and brevity.)

Question: We have several really fun single friends and thought it would be fun to seat them all at one table so they can meet one another and party down together, but we aren’t sure of the etiquette for that type of situation. Should we have a designated singles table at our reception?

Answer: Putting single guests all at one table can been perceived as a low-key fix up or surprise blind date and no one wants to be in that situation. As a rule, it’s best to seat single guests the same as anyone else and consider their personalities and interests, rather than marital status alone.
