This week we’ve been covering all topics related to wedding etiquette from whether it’s ever OK to wear white to a wedding, to how many gifts are required for a long engagement with lots of parties.
A wedding can be stressful for everyone involved, from the couple themselves to the guests attending – which is one of the reasons we created Wediquette Wednesday and now this week-long series.
Besides bringing a gift, and having a great time, a guest has the one other responsibility of returning their R.S.V.P. card in the appropriate amount of time. But, we were asked by a reader, what if an R.S.V.P. doesn’t include a return date?
Melanie says:
First, a quick fun-fact that R.S.V.P. is an acronym for the french, répondez s’il vous plaît, or in English, please respond. Second, that being said, it’s always best to respond right away, whether or not their is a return date on the card. However, if you are offered a plus one or otherwise have to check on something at work or some other potential conflict, simply contact the couple and ask for a deadline. Explain that you have to check on a few things before committing and you want to make sure to get it right before sending in the card and get it done in a timely fashion.
