Week of April 15: Pizza Poetry, Mid-City Fest and Cheese Boards

Enjoy some delicious slices and celebrate young writers with the 10^th annual Pizza Poetry Day this Friday, April 19. Each delivery comes with a special poem written by a young local artist. Proceeds from the day’s sales benefits 826 New Orleans, a non-profit that works to uplift young voices through writing and creativity. Participating restaurants include Mid-City Pizza, Pizza Delicious, Theo’s Pizza, G’s Pizza, Zee’s Pizza, Reginelli’s, Pizza Domenica, Ancora and St. Pizza.

There will also be a Pizza Poetry Day anniversary celebration this Saturday, April 20, 4 to 6 p.m. at Acorn Café at the Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park. RSVP for pizza, cake, and, of course, poetry.

Mid-City Mid Fest is Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., hosted at Bayou Wine Garden along with Once Around the Kitchen. It marks the weekend off between French Quarter Fest and the start of Jazz Fest. It’s a great time to catch your breath, enjoy food from more than eight pop-ups, plus an art market, live music, dog adoptions, a raffle and much more.

If you’re craving crawfish, head over to Zony Mash on Saturday, noon to 10 p.m., for “The Crawnic – Crawfish Boil Battle: New Orleans Edition.” There will be music. There will be live glass blowing. There will be art vendors. And, oh yes, there will be crawfish. Celebrity guest judges will sample the matchup between Mais la Crawfish and Captain Sasquatch & Slob_N_Blob.

We recently spotted this eye-popping, wig flipping dessert from Outpost 45 in Lakeview. The “Celebration Board” features hand spun cotton candy (displayed in the most fabulous way), a tower of cake and ice cream, and fresh berries. It’s definitely a head-turner!

It’s never too early to plan your Mother’s Day treats and this is one I can really get behind. Forget the flowers, give your mom the gift of cheese (or both!)
